Let all that you do be done in Love

1 Corinthians 16:14

This half term we will be exploring the question:

English

In our English, this half term we have started a new book called Pax. We have used the story to discuss our likes and dislikes about the parts of the story that we have read so far alongside any connections with other stories, books or films we know. We have performed some freeze frames and thought tracking to get into the mindset of the characters to infer how they might be feeling.

We have used this freeze frame and thought tracking to draft a letter to Peter's father about how we feel about being left at his grandfather's house as he goes to war. We used a lot of emotive language in these pieces of writing.

We have also used a graph of emotion to discuss how Peter would be feeling at different parts in the story and used story mapping to help us remember the story.

We throughly enjoyed reading our story of Pax although we were a little bit disappointed with how it had ended after all the drama that both Peter and Pax had gone through. We have used all the information that we have gathered about red foxes from our story to help guide us in creating a non-chronological report all about them.

Maths

In maths, we have continued on our work on fractions, percentages and decimals. We have been learning how they are all linked, how to round to the nearest whole number and to 1 decimal point alongside finding out how to find a percentage of an amount.

We moved on from fractions, decimals and percentages to perimeter and area where we looked at the perimeter of regular and compound shapes. We also used our knowledge of area from previous year groups to find the area of a range of different shapes.

Over the last week, we have looked at statistics and have explored a range of different graphs and tables.

Learning Challenge

In our learning challenge this half term, we have been continuing our learning from before Christmas on biomes and climates. Our focus this half term has been on rain forests. We have created a double page spread researching rain forests and have found a number of facts about them. We have also learnt about the different layers of a rain forest and created a fact file on our favourite animal from the rainforest. We are looking forward to using all that we have learnt in our learning showcase.

RE

In RE, we have looked at Easter and why it is viewed as a victory by Christians. We began by looking at looking at the word victory and what it means to us. We then explored the Easter story and compared the characters in the Easter story to the film The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Following this we looked at some different interpretations of artwork of the resurrection of Jesus and went to our local church to find out more about how Holy week is celebrated. We also used this experience to find out more aout different parts of the church.
