Subject Vision PE

Our Vision for PE at St George's

‘Let all that you do be done in Love’

1 Corinthians 16:14

The example of Jesus Christ and the Good News that he brings inspire St George's school to be a place of hope and a caring and inclusive community in which we all love to learn and learn to love.

Physical education develops pupils’ physical competence and confidence, and their ability to use these to perform in a range of sporting activities. It helps pupils understand their bodies and how they work whilst promoting the physical skills and development needed to become actively involved in sport for their own enjoyment or at a competitive level. It promotes a healthy lifestyle and helps pupils understand why it is important to be physically fit.

Physical Education

Physical Education at St George's is the planned, progressive learning that takes place in school curriculum timetabled time and which is delivered inclusively to all pupils. This involves both ‘learning to move’ (i.e. becoming more physically competent) and ‘moving to learn’ (e.g. learning through movement, a range of skills and understandings beyond physical activity, such as collaborating with others). The context for the learning is physical activity, with children experiencing a broad range of engaging activities, including sport and dance. PE at St George’s is inspirational and progressive- it prepares children for a physically active life.

School Sport

School Sport at St George's is the structured learning that takes place beyond the curriculum. The context for the learning is physical activity; an opportunity for application of learnt physical skills and a chance to experience competition against other schools. The ‘school sport’ programme at St George's broadens the foundation learning that takes place in physical education. It also forms a vital link with ‘community sport and activity.’
